Welcoming America Featured in Forbes Online

June 26th, 2012

Immigration has been in the news in a big way this past week.  And thanks to our friends at Ashoka, Welcoming America’s efforts to help Americans understand and respond more positively to immigrants in their community was the subject of an article published yesterday in Forbes online.

The article, authored by Hanae Baruchel and available here, discusses how corporate America is increasingly responding to immigration not as a problem, but as an opportunity.   The article’s author discusses how the innovative approach of Welcoming America and its affiliates in 20 states can help everyday Americans to do the same.

“We want to recognize communities that welcome newcomers” said Welcoming America Executive Director David Lubell in the article, “because we know that those places will be better positioned to attract global workforces and global investment. They’ll be better positioned to succeed in a 21st-century economy. They’ll be better able to help the public understand that our communities are strongest when everyone who lives in them feels welcomed. And as Americans, that’s something that we can all benefit from.”A global organization, Ashoka recently recognized Welcoming America’s Executive Director, David Lubell as an Ashoka Fellow.  The organization supports those who share qualities traditionally associated with leading business entrepreneurs – vision, innovation, determination and long-term commitment – but are committed to systemic social change in their fields.
