Respond to Unwelcoming Remarks–at Home, in your Workplace, and Place of Worship
Description: You may have heard people say negative things about immigrants. They may have made disparaging jokes or hurtful comments. It can be hard to know what to say in response. Next time you hear a comment that is disrespectful and untrue, try to speak up. Practice saying what you believe, even to people who disagree with you.
You can still be polite and respectful, but be confident in what you believe. If you think most immigrants are decent people working hard for their families and that there are more similarities between us than differences–say so. It can be hard, but practice will make it easier–and maybe you will even be able to help broaden someone’s perspective!
Points: Earn 2,000 points for speaking up when you hear negative comments about immigrants. Your points will be posted to your account after you write at least 250 words about your experience.
