What is Welcoming Week?

During this annual series of events, communities bring together immigrants and those born within their countries in a spirit of unity to build strong connections across their communities and affirm the benefits of welcoming everyone. 

In 2018, there were over 2,000 events in 400 communities during Welcoming Week, with more than 80,000 people participating and over 14 million social media impressions. 

By hosting a Welcoming Week event, you are part of a movement of more and more communities across the globe who recognize that being a welcoming community for all makes us stronger economically, socially, and culturally. We are grateful for your interest, and we look forward to partnering with you to make your event a success.

FREE Citizenship Day and Welcoming Week Citizenship Clinic sponsored by International Rescue Committee (IRC). A team of volunteer attorneys, paralegals, and interpreters will help you with your citizenship application. It’s FREE for all eligible legal permanent residents (green card holders).

Thrive Mahoning Valley is hosting a listening session at 10 other events (co-hosted by 9 other organizations) throughout the valley during Welcoming Week. We are recording community member responses to what makes them feel welcome and what makes them feel unwelcomine in the Mahoning Valley.

As part of the fifteenth annual Jazz Poetry Festival, this will be an evening of jazz and poetry collaborations. Sara Serpa and her band along with poet Emmanuel Iduma will perform the collaborative project Intimate Strangers.
