Racial Justice Day

Racial Justice Day #racialjusticeaustinmn

Wednesday, September 16

In Austin, we welcome newcomers and we also fight to disrupt and change systemic racial inequities in our community.

As part of Welcoming Week, we invite community members to do three things:

1. Visibly show your support for the cause of ending racism and supporting equity. This could take the form of wearing a Black Lives Matter shirt or posting a sign at your home. The idea is to help support each other in the work of ending racism by taking a day to be especially visible.

2. Share publicly how you, your family or your organization are working to end racism and support equity. For instance, an organization might create a social media post and/or send a media release highlighting their staff training in equity and inclusion. A family might post a list of Black-owned businesses that they are supporting with purchases on social media.

3. Attend "Justice, Equity and What it Means to be Welcoming" discussion circle on Wednesday, September 16 at noon at Austin East Riverland Community College campus hosted by Riverland Amnesty International. Since the event will be held outdoors, it will be cancelled in the event of inclement weather.
